How to Take Care of Your Cats When They Leave the House Too Much
Here are some of the reason why your cats tend to leave the house too often:
- Reproductive or heat cycle: The reproductive or heat cycle is a natural cycle in animals, but you can reduce the frequency of the cycle for your pets by sterilizing them.
- Spotting outdoor abnormalities: Cats are curious. They might chase small animals, such as birds, butterflies, or insects, too far from home.
- Confined space: Cats may feel too confined, so they often leave outside the house. This can be mediated by expanding indoor space, adding toys, a cat tree, or a scratch post for your cats to play with and alleviate stress.
- Owner’s lack of caring: Your cats may feel they don’t receive enough attention from their owner, so they leave the house to play outside. This can be mediated by playing with them with toys 1-2 times a day or feeding them their favorite treats, such as creamy treats or wet cat food.
If these are the reasons, owners should also frequently observe whether your cats return home with something. This can range from disease, wounds from accidents, bite marks, or dirt.
Here are our recommendation:
- Give your cats important vaccines that protect them from severe diseases, such as the feline panleukopenia vaccine, the cat flu vaccine, the feline leukemia vaccine, and the rabies vaccine.
- Protect your cats from parasites. Parasites such as ticks or fleas inhabit the environment, so your cats may contract them when they leave the house.
- Observe the abnormal behavior of your cats when they return home. Immediately take them to pet hospitals if you spot abnormalities.
- Observe your cats’ bodies and skin to see if there are wounds or injuries or not.
- If your cats are dirty or have dandruff, it is recommended to give them a bath 1-2 times a month. The accumulated dirt and dandruff may cause skin disease.
