Be Careful If Your Pets’ Nails and Paw Hair Are Aggressively Overgrown
If your pet’s nails and paw hair are aggressively overgrown, be careful because it can lead to the following problems:
- Ingrown nail: When nails are too long, the ends of the nails can break through paw skin, causing wounds, pain, and, in the worst case, infections.
- Abnormal gait: If nails are overgrown, your pets might not be able to properly gait, feel painful, and easily lose their balance.
- Health-related issues: Overgrown nails can cause health-related issues, such as nail infections, inflammation, and fungal nail infections, etc.
Overgrown paw hair can cause issue as follows:
-
- Abnormal gait: The overgrown paw hair can get bundled up, causing inconvenience in gaiting and making it easier for your pets to lose their balance.
- Skin disease: If the paw hair is too long, it may accumulate bacteria and moisture, causing skin-related issues such as skin inflammation and fungal infections.
So, pet owners should routinely take care of your pets’ nails and paw hair by trimming and grooming them. Fundamentally, nails should be trimmed once every 2-3 weeks while paw hair should be groomed once every 2-4 weeks.
If pet owners are unable to trim the nails or groom your pets, it is recommended to take your pets to vets or pet groomers for the trimming and grooming.
